Reason #4,752 why Matt Millen has no business being a General Manager in the NFL, or for that matter any local bank branch. This also supports my theory that Millen has some sort of odd wide receiver... not that there is anything wrong with that.
According to a Pat Kirwan article the Detroit Lions have 16 wide recievers hitting their cap. Trouble being that only 12 are actually on the teams roster. No big deal right? Well, then you have to factor that three of said WR's aren't even on the team anymore. Oh, and those three happen to be Charles Rogers, Mike Williams & Corey Bradford. And oh yeah, those three WR's eat up a totaly of 10.3 MILLION DOLLARS.
If you do the math (apprently Matt Millen didn't bother) that's roughly 10 percent of the teams overall salary cap for the coming year. Now picture this: there are at least 10 or so WR's counting against the cap and oh yeah, THEY STILL HAVE TO SIGN CALVIN JOHNSON! Kirwan estimates that when all is said and done about 28 million will be spent this year on that position alone.
Seriously, how big of an F-up is this? If anyone has a better example how a GM has screwed a team I would love to hear it.

This happens to every team, guy. Every year, each team is going to have a few guys not on the team any more who are still under contract. Go back to the 2003 draft, do you NOT take Charles Rogers? Yeah, you do. As far as Mike Williams goes...well, whaddya do? He had the ability to match the 10th pick overall, and since Rogers kept breaking his collar bone and getting caught smoking pot, it made sense at the time. He's off the books after this season anyway.

That's a great point Cooz, every team does in fact have dead money against the cap every year, but three players not on the team eating up 10 percent of your cap? That's not the norm.
One time? A fluke. Twice? A coincidence. Three times? That's a trend. The buck stops at Millen. He or someone under him obviously didn't do there homework.
