I only learned this a few hours ago (via ESPNews), so allow me a moment to let this sink in.
After everything surrounding the whole "Smiley" Gonzalez/Carlos Daniel Lugo mess, it took until today for Jim Bowden to throw in the towel and quit as GM of the Nationals?? Shouldn't you have done this, oh, let's say 24 to 48 hours after this story broke??
I called it, didn't I?? Did I not say after Jose Rijo left, that the "death watch" on Bowden would start??
So what this means, is that Mike Rizzo (who had been the assistant GM) now gets to leave his fingerprints on this Nationals team. Seeing how he made the Diamondbacks into a contender, it's only a matter of time before my dream of a World Series in Washington by 2013 becomes a reality.
Meanwhile, there's this season to deal with. Watching this "30 Teams/30 Days" show last night on the MLB Network on the Nats, these so-called "experts" picked 'em to finish...last in the NL East. Okay, so they may not finish over .500 this year. Still, I'M of the opinion they won't lose 100 games (like last year) or finish last in the division.
But, that's just me...
