It's sad that Brian Dawkins won't be playing for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009. Yeah, I know he's 35 and that's "old" for the NFL, but come on! - the guy's not embarassing himself out there! He is still a hard-hitting tackler and provides great leadership to younger players. So maybe he only has 1 or 2 seasons left in him; maybe his best days are behind him - who knows? I don't like the way the Eagles dealt with him. He gave his all for 13 years and he ALWAYS played with heart. Such courage and dedication is not found easily. I would have signed him to another Eagles' contract and let Dawkins tell us when he wanted to step aside for some younger player. He might be a step slower than he was a few years ago, but he's still probably better than most defensive backs in the NFL. Dawkins playing for Denver? That's not my idea of normal!
Good luck to you, Dawk, and I hope you have a great year. Maybe Reid and Banner won't miss you, but Eagle fans will!
Yes, I will still root for the Eagles, but that Defense just won't be quite the same without Dawkins. I think he deserved better from the Eagles.
