Manny, A-rod, and more | My Incredibly Biased Opinion

So Manny Ramirez finally signed with the LA Dodgers. It's about time Scott Boras got something done for someone whose name is not Mark Texiera. Now don't get me wrong some of my favorite players are represented by Boras (eg. Jason Varitek, Jacoby Ellsbury etc.), but Boras did not fulfill his job in regards to many players whom were free agents this winter. Sure Texiera is going to get paid but other guys that he represents will not. Varitek is a great example, he would have made over $10 million this year had he accepted arbitration. Instead Varitek will make half of that this year because Boras advised him not to take the offer. And then of course we have Manny who was offered somewhere in the neghborhood of $80 million over three or four years. Manny declined and will ultimately make $45 million over the next two years. I'm sure Manny and Boras are both real happy about that one.

Another thing that I would like to talk about is Alex Rodriguez. I won't say that I feel bad for him, it's kind of hard to feel bad for aguy that makes as much money as him, but I will say that this is a really bad thing for Mr. Rodriguez. After the steroid thing A-rod needed to get out and play, and play well. It's too bad that he won't be able to do that, but I geuss he didn't think about that while he was taking steroids.

I'm excited for the World Baseball Classic. I think the US has a good shot to win it this year with guys like Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis but the competion is really good too. Of course the Dominican Republic is going to compete with all of the guys that they have, and Japan with Daisuke Matsuzaka and Ichiro Suzuki among others. The only guy I'm really worried about is Dice-K. I don't like the fact that he was away from the team all spring, and I'm a little bit worried about him being over-used by team Japan. However I applaud the national pride he shows, and wish him luck in the Classic and in the season.
