Rich Hill, recently shut down with some elbow issues, is trying to make the Baltimore Orioles this year. Specifically, he's trying to crack their relatively wide open rotation.
This is newsworthy, naturally, because outside of a couple games early in the season, Rich Hill has been completely out ofMajor League Baseball for over a year.
When the Cubs traded Hill to the Orioles earlier this year for a player to be named later, most fans figured we were just getting rid of a guy who was out of options and would never again contribute meaningfully at the major league level.
