With the SEC men's basketball tournament right around the corner there isn't a whole lot to brag about for the majority of the SEC. LSU is the only ranked team in the SEC at this point. 1 team ranked from a BCS conference. Now I know this is basketball and not football, but that is still pretty bad. As of last week there was a four way tie for the SEC East lead between Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky, and South Carolina. Nobody really looked like they wanted to win that division. Then Tennessee finally stood strong with a couple of fairly impressive wins, most notably, over South Carolina. Then they go into the final weekend of the regular season and lay an egg against a less than potent Alabama team. LSU after winning the regular season outright decides to quit playing the rest of the regular season putting up a loss to Vanderbilt and another unranked team from the west which is the subject of this blog.
Auburn and their head coach Jeff Lebo were left for dead a little over a month ago. Then finally something clicked with the team and they have been on a tear. Winning 8 of their last 9 games to close the regular season, including a beat down of the SEC regular season champs LSU. They have managed to earn a first round bye for the SEC tournament and seem to be peaking at just the right time.
