Yea I was depressed when TO was cut. I thought it made the Cowboys a weaker team. But I started to think about the whole thing. Owens is 35 years old. His yards dropped over 300 yards from 07. In one of his best games vs. the Niners, Owens had 213 yards. The other 15 game numbers paint the picture of a receiver getting caught by the fastest tackler of all time, the player feared by everyone. His name is "Father Time". Owens had 1,052 yards receiving in 08. In those other 15 games, Owens had 839 yards receiving. Do the dividing and his average per game was 55.9 yards. Thats star numbers? Yea, you can say he gets doubled, well hes been doubled most of his career. Next year he'll be a year older. I am hoping that Roy Williams can step it up. He did have a 1300 yard year a couple years ago. Witten should make him a better player. Keep in mind that during last year, Owens and Witten were primary receivers, so this year Williams will be the guy! Dallas might sign a veteran receiver in August to help. Don't see much help at WR. in the 2nd round.
Sometimes good teams cut great players because they are outspoken. We saw the Giants let go Tiki Barber and Shockey, it ended up making them a more cohesive team. They won a Super Bowl. Disruptive players can hurt a team more off the field then on. People in Miami had to raise an eyebrow when their 2 defensive stars got cut. After a 1-15 season, the Dolphins cut Taylor and Zach Thomas. Well the next year the Dolphins won the division with a 11-5 record. Back in 2005, Dallas was a 9-7 team, they got TO in 2006 and went 9-7. Owens had a great year in 07 and Dallas went 13-3. Well Dallas' record in 2008 was 9-7. Has Owens made the team alot better? 2005 without Owens-9-7. 2006 with Owens 9-7 , 2008 with Owens 9-7? I don't think so. Romo being a very mobile QB. helped their offense. I am banking on Owens' release being a blessing! Why! because I have no choice, Hes in Buffalo which might prove that winning a ring wasn't as important to him as I thought?
