Interesting weekend for me. I'd love to report that I made a solid profit...because I did...but with my wife's cash game losses, I basically broke even for the weekend. Could have been MUCH worse, but I got lucky a couple of times in the cash game Saturday to make some really good money.
Early on I tried to bluff at a pot, and made a fortune. I had 8-10 of hearts, and called a raiser with the intention of trying to bluff it if it came right for me.
Flop came K-8-2, and the original raiser put in his continuation bet, and I said "You didn't hit anything" and raised three times his bet. And that bet got TWO callers. Uh oh. But then the turn came another 8...and the original raiser shoved all in. I had to look twice at the board, and finally called. And the third person called too!
Original raiser showed K-J, and the other caller showed K-10...and I raked in over two hundred in profit. I'd feel bad about it if I was the one chasing, but I was raising. Bluffing, yes. But still, he simply called my raise. I believe he would have shoved all in on my raise after the flop if it weren't for the third person. He had a good read on me, but K-Q, A-K, K-8...all hands the third guy could have had. So....lucky me.
On the other side of the coin, I made several mistakes in the game that cost me a lot of money too. I'd correctly read someone, and call them....when I should have raised. I justfied it to myself that they would have just called anyway, and won on the river anyway....but so what? At least then I would have been leading and not following. That's something I'll have to work on.
Basically, I was trying to trap, and ended up giving them a free run at the winner. That's how I won with the 8's above....and how I lost to others. Raise....Fold....Call. In that order. If I'm in the lead, and believe I'm in the lead, I should RAISE. Calling was stupid.
Oh well, no major win or loss this weekend, so on to the next one.
