The purity of college sports is what makes them beautiful.  Obviously I'm not trying to kid you into believing that college athletics are not a big business, believe me they are, but when we see a little underdog team like a George Mason reach the Final Four, we remember why we love to watch and play the game.

An even further extension is at the division two and division three level.  The majority of these athletes will never be heard of.  They're not playing for major endorsements or a shoe contract and are lucky if their games get on the radio let alone television. Like the commercial says, they will be like most collegiate athletes and go pro in something other than sports.

So why even keep playing?  What has kept them going to this point?

Perhaps the reason goes beyond just the sport itself.  Beyond the wins and loses comes the life lessons that one learns through sports and applies them to situations in every day life.  It's all about competition, hard work, teamwork, cooperation and good sportsmanship.

Playing sports along with life only lasts so long.  You'll win some and lose some along the way, make some mistakes, pick yourself up and keep on competing.  Because life is way too short not to have fun, that's why they play the games.
