Not Monday Night at Portland
"Oh Man", the Los Angeles Lakers go into Portland with the best
standing in the Western Conference & NBA, but that meant absolutely
nothing to the Portland Trailblazers putting on a Whooping versus LA
get the "W" 111-94. This is a game Lakers fans would like to forget,
but games like this remind Lakers fans of that Celtics game. Same kind
of feeling during the game in the mid quarters as Portland's Super
Stars played some exceptional basketball. "On off night" for the Lakers
is an Understatement, and it does hurt to go into Portland like that
and get beat in that fashion. I was very impressed of the Portland
style game, and there point guard was just too tough for the Lakers,
and that man is Brandon Roy.
The Blazers outscore the Lakers 25-16 in the first quarter, and while
it seemed that LA would regain momentum, that was not so. This game was
a game that humbled Lakers fans as everything is looking good, and fans
and players are smiling, but there are teams in the Western Conference
that can compete and even beat the Lakers. The Blazers out played the
Lakers on the Offensive end and it was not fun to watch.
The score at 32-51 in the 2nd quarter as Roy passes to Aldridge for the
slam dunk. Then came the 3 pointers and the outside game where the
Blazers were not only scoring hoops on the Lakers defense, but they
were looking good doing it scoring all those points meaning the Lakers
on defense were looking not so good. The score goes up to 58-34, and
Blazers role players like Outlaw were making the hoops at 16 early
points. The Blazers go on a 10-0 run. Kobe was not making his outside
shots during the early part of the game and on his miss, Gasol follows
up to bring the score at 60-38, at 61-38 at the half time. For the
Lakers Kobe scoring leads LA with 12, and Gasol with 10 points. The
Blazers outscored the Lakers 36-22 in the 2nd quarter to give the
Lakers its largest deficit at half time this season and lowest point
production for a half down an uncanny 23 points. The Lakers fans
couldn't wait to see James Worthy and Jim Hill at the Jack and the Box
Halftime report.
Funny when I walked into the door and turned on the TV how happy I was that the Lakers were playing live on KCAL 9.
The Lakers broadcasters do a great job at the booth to telecast the
game, and they were doing the best they can to give the fans that hope
the team can bounce back from this deficit. I actually thought the
Lakers would come back, and it took me till about 4 minutes left in the
4th to realize that this is just on "Off Night" for the Lakers. Still,
Lakers players don't like to play that much like Poo Poo in front of
very dedicated fans. Portland laid it on them, and it was one outside
shot after another all game. Brandon Roy exposed the Lakers weakness on
Defense and the true point guard how great he plays that position just
too tough for the Lakers.
Brandon Roy for the Blazers scores 27 points a plus +30 and 10-11 at
the free throw line. Outlaw scores 22, Aldridge scores 16, Pryzbilla
scores 12, Fernandez 11, Blake 8, Batum (Raider)(Bantom Books) scores
8, and Frye 7 to give the Blazers 111 points on 48% FG's, 11-24 3 point
FG's at 45%, and there were 4 lead changes and 0 times was this game
tied. The Blazers being that 5 seed played like a 1-3 seed, and at home
were spectacular Tuesday Night on all ends. It was good basketball to
watch, but not for Lakers fans. The Lakers can consider this an off
night. Still, it is important to come back in that Houston Game
Wednesday Night with a better performance than that. "What was that?" A
lot of people today were talking about the fact that after this game,
that the Lakers winning the Championship it would be hard for this
team. We will have to find out how the Lakers bounce back from a
humbling game at Portland. The Lakers Kobe Bryant I thought missed a
lot of outside shots. The Lakers as a team didn't look good on the
offensive plays against a very acrobatic Blazers team. The Lakers had
no answer to the penetration of Brandon Roy, on the inside/outside game
of the point guard to his players, nor on the glass early in this game
where Pryzbilla was effective down low.
For the Lakers Kobe scores 26, Gasol 18, and Farmar scores 12 points.
Lakers Trevor Ariza is ejected from the game in the 2nd half for a
flagrant foul on Fernandez where he landed on the floor hard after
going for a lay up at full speed, Ariza fouls him on the arm, and
Fernandez was on the floor for over 15 minutes before he was carefully
carted off the court in a stretcher.

Portland outscores Los Angeles 23-18 in the third quarter while the
Lakers outscore the Blazers 38-27 in the fourth to get the "W" 111-94.
Roy played a very smart and physical
basketball game Monday Night against the Lakers. The Lakers are 50-13
the 1 seed, and the Blazers are 40-23 the 5 seed winning 2 in a row in
the Western Conference. (The Lakers the last 10 are 7-3, Portland 7-3,
and the Jazz 10-0)
