I spent the last 2 hours watching the Syracuse - UConn game...and I didn't even turn it on until there were only about 5 minutes left in regulation. And I don't have a vested interest in either team but I couldn't look away; it was that good.
But. I have an issue w/ the commentators who kept talking about players getting into foul trouble when the game was multiple overtimes. Well, my first issue is with fouls in basketball in general. Coming from a football/lacrosse perspective, I think a lot of the fouls are dumb and they should suck it up and keep playing. Half the time the fouled player barely gets touched; if you're gonna foul someone, you might as well really foul them, yeah?
Anyway, to finally get to the point: It is my opinion that when a player has more minutes of playing time than there are minutes in regulation, they should get an extra foul or two. When you're playing so much overtime that it's basically two games in one, timewise, you shouldn't be limited to the same number of fouls you'd get in one regulation game.
That being said, starters fouling out because they were logging 60 minutes of playing time when games are usually 40 benefitted the benchwarmers. Just goes to show that you never know what's going to happen and when you're going to finally get your shot. You might not be on ESPN all the time, but you might be the one on the court when it really counts.

In the earlier game (Pitt/West Va), the commentators were talking about all the 'touch' fouls that the refs were calling....and I have to say, I agree. There was some really questionable officiating in BOTH games.
