In November 2003 I was an eleven year-old Red Sox fan devestated by a twelve inning game seven loss to the New York Yankees in the ALCS. I had little knowledge of whom Curt Schilling was, but I had been told that with him the Sox would have the best rotation in the MLB. In less than a year Schill became one of my favorite players to play the game of baseball by doing something that nobody had been able to do over 86 years: win a World Series championship for the Boston Red Sox.

Big Schill represents heroism at its finest. He was willing to put his career and his health on the line for the greater good of his team, and the city of Boston. For that I will be forever greatful to Curt. Without him who knows, we may still be without a championship.

Curt's respect for the game may have been what set him apart from the rest. "The game was here long before I was, and will be here long after I'm gone," he said in his retirement announcement in his blog today. One thing Schill never did was take the game for granted. He never took his special gift for granted, and he felt that it was his duty to leave everything on the field, and to give it his best everytime he took the mound.

Schill was possibly the best postseason pitcher to ever play the game of baseball. With an 11-2 record in the postseason this guy epitomized clutch. His will to win was greater than everyone else's. Nobody wanted it more than Curt and that was clear in the way he pitched, especially in the biggest games, and on the biggest stage.

Curt Schilling will forever be remembered for his bloody sock, and puting to end an 86 year curse. He played the game with so much dignity, respect for himself and the game, and a fear. A fear of failure which pushed him to do the best he could every time he took the mound. Curt Schilling was great for the game, and the game was great for him. Put this man into the Hall of Fame in 5 years, he was the best big game pitcher of all time, and he loved the game.
