NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is pushing for the NFL to expand their schedule to 17 or 18 games.

I don't know whether to be upset or happy about his efforts. There are a lot of pros and cons to both sides. The traditional part of me feels like the NFL is perfect as it is and needs no change. But is that realistic?  The NFL has always evolved, and usually improved (although I can do without those 15 yard penalties on endzone celebrations).

The change could reduce the number of pre-season games, most likely simply replacing them with games that count. I'm all for the notion of a longer football season that counts, but I'm bothered by NFL records going down too easily. They say records are meant to be broken, but it's a lot harder to accept a record when the guy has more opportunities than the record holder.

Then again, Roger Maris shouldn't have had an asterisk. If Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds don't, he sure as hell didn't. Although, baseball is far more known for how much the records are cherished.
