The fifth and final in a series, previewing the teams in the NL Central, other than the Cubs.

Every sports publication in the world puts out season previews. Some are interesting, some aren't. For the most part, folks just don't have the time necessary to do the kind of in-depth preview that is going to be of any use to a reader that actually follows the team being previewed.

So most previews end up being pretty surface level, and boring. It's much more interesting (read: easy) to simply examine why the team currently sucks and is going to suck in 2009.

This is done *regardless of whether the team might not actually suck.* It's a gimmick. Just enjoy it. Or hate it. Debate it. That's the point.

Last week, Bleacher Nation previewed the Houston Astros, and up this week is the St. Louis Cardinals. As a Chicago Cubs fan, obviously this one was the most enjoyable to write. Read all about it.

Okay......there were a couple of mildly funny comments in there, but mostly just blatant Cub fan jealousy and hatred of the Birds.

Remember, everytime you talk about how the Cardinals suck.....just remember the last 100 years:

Ten Rings.......

versus

ZERO Rings......

Enough said.

Yeah, that preview was lacking in any real analysis of the Cards. It mentions Carpenter, but merely says, "he won't be back", but fails to address, what if he is? Also calling out the lineup really only shows that the writer has no idea what he's talking about. They had the best AVG. in the NL last year, and have replaced Ceasar Itzuris with Khalil Greene, who is coming off a down year, and still a significant improvement of Itzuris. If you look at Schumacker's stats and projections, he did not play over his head last year, but about where he was expected. Ludwick was a surprise, but is another guy who was once a huge prospect, and as a result of injuries, and opportunity, never had a chance to put it all together. I doubt he hits the same way this year, but he'll get 25-30HR, with .290+ AVG, and 100 RBI. Not too shabby. This team is much better than suck, but the most egregious statement out of the entire thing was calling the Cards a thorn in the Cubs side. Yeah right, The Cards are way too good, to called a thorn in anybody's side. they are the side. The central is their division, and the Cubs at the top is mere blip on the radar. I also love how in every "Cub expert" opinion", guys like Ludwick can't possibly repeat, but you fully expect Harden to be healthy all year, and Dempster to have sub 3 ERA again. Ummm, who's living in fantasy land?

Poor little bitter Cubs fan. Have fun with Aaron Miles as your leadoff man. What a complete joke your franchise is, and always will be with your silly bar that you call a ballpark. Can't WAIT to see Kevin Gregg coming out of the bullpen in August. Cards win, Cubs choke-- it's been the same for 100 years. Last year, by the way, was hilarious! That was your shot and you blew it. Again.

Yea, look who's sucking hard, deep, and long - you guessed it, the Chicago (big mouth) Cubs. Do not take it too hard, or soft. Just sit home and watch the Cardinals trounce all the way to the World Series against the Yankees, and then kick their asses and dedicate all of those wins to the best has-been team in baseball, the Cubs. Next year will be more of the same.

Suck on a Cardinal 34 inch Cardinal bat and a couple of Cardinal baseballs...
