Why, Jay, WHY!?!!?!? You change your mind more than a 5 year old in a candy store. First you want this, then WAIT! You want what you had to begin with. Now you want out. So, where are you going to go? Here's five teams that I think should make a run to get Cutler.
Tennessee Titans
Why It Could Work: The Titans don't have a QB they can rely on, and Cutler played college football in the state of Tennessee (Vanderbilt). If Tennessee could pull this off, they would be in at least 1 Super Bowl by 2012.
Why It Wouldn't Work: Tennessee's highest pick is 30th, and that's not going to cut it. The Broncos want two first round picks, and I don't see how even with help from another team that the Titans could pull this off. They would have to throw in another player (possibly Vince Young?) for this to have a remote chance of happening.
New York Jets
Why It Could Work: The Jets desperately need a QB they can rely on, and his name is not Kellen Clemens. They have a mid-first round pick, and it seems that Woody Johnson would be willing to give up a lot to land Cutler.
Why It Wouldn't Work: New York may not be willing to give up enough to another team, as it seems this deal has to be a three-way one. Other than that, I see this as being a very likely move and a smart one for the Jets.
Detroit Lions
Why It Could Work: Detroit is one of the few teams out there that could make this deal just between them and Denver. It appears that with the first pick, the Lions will get a QB. So why not use that first pick to get a QB who's already proven?
Why It Wouldn't Work: Detroit may decide to play it safe and get an offensive tackle with the #1 pick. They could then either draft another QB later or sign a free agent like Jeff Garcia. Detroit needs a whole lot from the Draft in order to make a turnaround, and using one or two high picks might wind up biting them in the butt later on.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Why It Could Work: Same song, third or fourth verse for Tampa. It seems year after year that Tampa Bay is looking for a QB, and now they have a decent shot at getting one. Tampa Bay is starting over, and one of the main components in rebuilding is getting a franchise QB.
Why It Wouldn't Work: Another part of rebuilding is getting young players, and the Bucs might just decide to hold on to the 19th pick. Sure, Brian Griese and Luke McCown aren't sexy picks to battle for your QB job, but I think it could work out well. And if you don't believe in these guys, get a guy like Josh Freeman to line up under center.
Washington Redskins
Why It Could Work: It appears that Washington is not completely comfortable with Jason Campbell as the team's QB, and are reportedly trying to trade him for a 2nd round pick that would help them get Cutler.
Why It Wouldn't Work: My Question is "Why would anyone else be comfortable with Campbell at QB?" He's done OK as the Redskins starter, but I don't think enough to give up a high second round pick. I would say give up a high 3rd round pick at the least if I'm a GM of a team interested. This may lead to a Cutler situation for Campbell, as his team is actively shopping him for another QB. All I can say is, good luck Coach Zorn.
