That's what you get for trying to "fix" a bench that wasn't broken and leaving the broken bullpen unfixed... I'd like Ed Wade to rationalize not re-signing two of the Astros' most reliable hitters from '08 (Ty Wiggington & Mark Loretta) and opting for the virtually unknown Jasons (Smith and Michaels)!! It pained me much to learn that Loretta is batting .556 (5 for 9) for the Dodgers now! Boy, the Astros could sure use an average like that on their bench. I'm okay with our starting lineup and believe Jeff Keppinger could be the star of the bench, but I cringe at the idea--no, FACT--the Astros have nothing better than Smith or Michaels waiting on the 40-man roster! At this point, I'd be all for saying sayonara to EVERY Astro and starting over young--if it meant getting rid of our entire bullpen to get some fresh, young talent in here...the kind with POTENTIAL! Disclaimer: Of course, B-man, Carlos, and Oswalt would have to stick around...and I guess Pence could stay, since he's young enough... The Astros' powers that be need to re-think this ill-fated strategy of trying to "build a winning team" of veterans with proven track records. The problem with track records is that, however "proven" they may be, they only tell of the past, are often lengthy in years, and come with NO GUARANTEES!! I think I've rambled enough.
