Now I usually write about baseball, but a recent issue in hockey really grinded my gears and forced me to switch topics, at least for today. Milan Lucic recently was handed a one game suspension for a cross check to the face of Maxim Lapierre. In fact this wasn't even a cross check; Lucic's hand made all of the contact. Not too mention that Lapierre was the one who approached Lucic.
With this suspension the league is sending an awful message to the players, the fans, and to a great young forward with no prior infractions: they will be very inconsistent with the penalties they hand out. This is criminal, and Colin Campbell should lose his job for his lack of consistency. Mr. Campbell relies on, what seems like, everything but common sense and visual evidence. He is relying on gut feelings rather than the visual evidence.
Clearly with Campbell, the league is not drawing a clear line on what is and isn't acceptable. Infractions like these will continue to happen if something isn't done with how the league assesses the situations. The league must set a standard on what is and isn't acceptable, and Colin Campbell is not doing this.
