Well, after his first season with the Jays B.J. Ryan seemed very promising to fill the closer position. As of late he has become less and less effective blowing leads that should be far more than enough for a closer. Although this really shouldn't come as a surprise because it was well documented that during spring training his velocity dropped. At the time I didn't worry too much about it but now I definetly am.
Take last night for example, Ryan came into the 9th with a 7-4 lead which he promptly blew and to top it all off the tying run was driven in by way of Home Run. Luckily or unluckily if you are a Rangers fan the Jays were able to come back in the 11th and win the game. However this will not always be the case and last night was not the only time that Ryan has blown a save this season. If he continues to pitch so poorly the Blue Jays organization will have no choice but to find a new closer in my eyes. This is because they need a man that they can trust to come out and sit the other team down consistantly in the 9th. He also has an 11.12 ERA which in my mind is unacceptable for a closer.
That beeing said I wish Ryan the best and hope he can turn this situation around because the Jays could use him.
