So the Niners are now on the clock. Let's see if they can pick an actual NFL player, rather than the stiffs they have been getting the last several years. This is GM Scott McCloughan's chance to prove that all those draft bust's were Mike Nolan's. But what will they do?
The last week USC QB Mark Sanchez has been mentioned, but the Niners can't afford another "maybe" at that position. I would pass. Michael Crabtree, the Texas Tech WR could fall to #10, but the reason why is a major problem. His "diva" attitude has already ticked off two teams that need help-Cleveland & St. Louis. Hey Mike, you played for Tech get over yourself. NFL defenses are bigger & quicker than college & you will soon find yourself struggling if you don't adjust. See Vernon Davis, the Niners almost a bust TE. He was supposed to be a stud, not a dud.
Brian Orakpo from Texas is a possibility because the Niners are always looking for pass rushers, & he would be a good complement to Patrick Willis. Or how about this intriguing thought that the hometown San Jose Mercury came up with today. Pat White the West Virginia QB. Not to replace Alex Smith or Sean Hill, but rather to be turned into a WR or RB. It wouldn't be the first time that was done, although I remain unimpressed with Michael Robinson whenever he's on the field, which fortunately isn't very often.
So let's wait. The draft will soon start. Matthew Stafford can use his $41.7 M to buy lots of Advil or Tylenol, because he's going to need it playing for that team.
