Such a tragedy that was at the Cowboys' practice facility last Saturday with the roof being blown down by that microburst of wind, especially for Richard Behm who had his spinal cord severed. That is something almost unimaginable.
Now as we hear more of what is going on with that situation, the tragedy is magnified with the reports that the roof had not received an inspection by the city after it had been completed? A lot of finger pointing coming up, no doubt, no doubt, and law suits in abundance.
This is what will be looked for: Memos that indicated or warned that these types of buildings with tarps as roofs would be unsafe in certain weather conditions. I'm sure there will be some. Did anyone know about the violent weather coming as the players were practicing? If so, why were the players, coaches, and other personnel allowed to remain in the building? A similar building at Arizona State University had collapsed sometime last year.
All those scenarios will be played out.
The NBA doesn't really mean anything until the playoffs don't you know. Kudos to the Bulls and Celts with that great, record-setting first-round series...seven overtimes. Now that's a series. Celts having a hard time again in the first round. Remember last year the Hawks gave them a run. Now it seems there will be trouble with the Magic.
Anyway, the Rockets' victory in Game 1 against the Lakers last night brought back memories of the Western Conference series both had back in '86. The mighty Lakers with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson favored to brush aside the Houston Rockets. But Akeem "the Dream" Olajuwon and Ralph Sampson had different ideas.
Can't remember what game it was, but I still remember the inbounds pass to Sampson who immediately turned around to launch a hurried, awkward shot as there was probably, I think, a second left. Anyway, buzzer sounds as the ball hits the rim and just rolls in. Many broken hearts in the Forum as Michael Cooper is shown on the floor with his look of disbelief.
