I'm confused as to all the reports about how the Jets need to trade away draft picks or players to get a starting WR opposite Jericho Cotchery. Names like Braylon Edwards and Anquan Boldin repeatedly come up. But here is where the hangup is. Why would you trade anything away and sell future players, for any of these unhappy WR's?
I think the best choice is to promote Marcus Henry (The guy the team actually drafted) off of the practice squad and on to the active roster. He can take the empty spot left by Lavernues Coles. The #2 WR spot can be battled out between Brad Smith and David Clowney, with Chanci Stuckey in the slot receiver position. Since the team is running more than throwing anyway, it won't be too big a deal. And if you are looking for a big WR for a redzone target, you have one in Henry who is 6'4.
Now, if after the 2nd preseason game or so, if the teams WR's have proven they are not up to the challenge, then you can go ahead and sign a free agent WR. As of right now, you can get players at WR such as Marvin Harrison, Joe Horn, or Amani Toomer. All of whom are good players, excellent character guys and teachers for the younger guys. Notice I didn't even mention Plexico Burress.
If this was my team, and obviously I'm not a GM, I'd look at playing these guys that are already playing for the team, and then signing a free agent before I even thought about trading for someone. Anyone in Jets land agree with me?

Brad Smith is not a viable #2 receiver, especially with a rookie QB taking over the offense this fall
