I'm not going to talk about Ryan Zimmerman again(even though Mets fans didn't seem too upset about me putting him above David Wright) or the fact that the Cardinals lost another outfielder yesterday, but here's the midweek update
AL EAST
Is there a better starting pitcher out there than Roy Halladay? I'm going to have to say no. Halladay shut down the Yankees 5-1 yesterday and saw his offense score some runs against former teammate AJ Burnett. The number of pitchers that are comparible to Halladay you can count with one hand and it's always good to see the Blue Jays play well. They are currently 23-12 with a one game lead over Boston in the rugged AL East. Will they be able to keep it up? I'm guessing yes, they may be this year's Rays.
AL CENTRAL
It looks like the AL Central is all over the place again this season, which the top four teams within 2 1/2 games of each other. Detroit is playing well, but I still think that Minnesota will end up winning this division. With Joe Mauer back, the pitching staff will be getting better and they have a ton of talent on the team. My sleeper is still KC, they need to hold out until Joakim Soria(the most underrated closer in baseball) and Alex Gordon get back from the DL.
AL WEST
So what does Josh Hamilton do when he gets activated from the DL? He hits a home run. Such is life in the AL West. Seattle and Texas are leading the division now, but the Angels will be getting back Lackey, Santana, and Vlad soon. They should still win the division, but it will be closer than people thought it would be.
NL EAST
Since the Marlins have come back to the field, this is anyone's race(except for the Nationals). The Braves got Brian McCann back earlier this week and I still think they have the type of team to make a run, with Derek Lowe and Jair Jurrgens pitching great. The Mets are still the Mets and the Phillies need Chase Utley to pitch like he did last year, but they still have the best lineup in the division.
NL CENTRAL
Here's a news flash, Bill Hall did not homer on Mother's Day. He had hit home runs the last 2 Mother's Days. The NL Central is a division with an up anc coming team(The Reds, who may have the best rotation in the division), a team with the best hitter in baseball and a lot of grinders(The Cardinals), a team full of young hitters and a few good arms(The Brewers) and the Cubs, who should be leading this division with their talent. I wonder if they're going to have one of their typical Junes?
NL West
MANNYWOOD has been replaced by? Manny's 50 game suspension will cause at least one team to catch up with the mighty Dodgers and that's the San Francisco Giants. The Giants, whose offense is ranked 27th in the majors, have the best rotation in the majors with Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Randy Johnson, Jonathan Sanchez, and a reborned Barry Zito. It's going to be interesting to see how this race looks at the break. I'm pulling for the Giants, even though I like a lot of the Dodgers and their manager, Joe Torre.
