Inspiration and Frustration...daily occurences for musicians. In #3, I mentioned studio work and how it is grueling for me. Let me expound that topic for a moment...I need to vent. For a composer, getting a melody can be tricky (not always, sometimes it just happens, sometime you labor at it). Once you get that idea (still may need tweaked), I find myself playing a piano or a guitar and putting chords to the melody. So now, like any artistic endeavor, a foundation has been laid, some building has strengthen it, and now lyrics need to be added that match the tempo and the style (genre). Develpong a song has some critical parts--the intro, with or without vocals/music, must be determined. Like poetry, the verse or chorus must be structured and have a pattern, and one must decide if the song will have a bridge (that's the little part sometimes imbedded in the song that adds a different progression of the chords and melody) and then return to the verse/melody progression. So, what I'm trying to say is that you can spend a great deal of time and effort (again, inspiration makes it just "happen") to get the song down. Then you bring it to the band. Here, everyone's input can be accepted or ignored...as the artist, the composer must decide if it fits the band, if other ideas are better or not, etc. So the band begins to rehearse and rehearse and play it and play it to work out any bugs. Finally, you go to the studio. The produced listens and may make suggestions. So more tweaking may be done. You might be surprised at what you hear from bands and how that song may have started. Anyway, there's the frustration part. Somewhere along the line, you see fans reacting the way you want them to for that song, and you become inspired all over again. Rock on...
