It has been maybe a year or so since Rick Reilly did a hop skip and a jump over to ESPN. It has been over a year since I last really enjoyed my SI magazine. We all know print magazines are falling by the way side with the interent taking over giving us our sports fix in a matter of seconds, however I always found myself on the toilet, flipping ot the back of a magazine reading Reilly's insights on whatever he felt like that week. Most times he would write about things I could care less but his words were puzzled together in a way that would make the smallest of stories matter. In all my life I have never read anyone who couldmake words leap fro the page and dance through all my walls into my heart and make me feel something.
Now I know people will say SI got Dan Partick which is cool and all because I always felt he was a far better radio personailty that Jim Rome, however I can't help but feel they lost out in the trade because the SI magazine is, well boring now. Most stories I have read online already and the authors that now take up Rick's place lack the ability to match words in the way that make me want to read past the first paragraph. Just today I opened my SI and was dissapointed once again..
We live in a strange word of instant gratification. We get our news from twitter...(@togocats) everything is going by so fast and Rick, well he made it slow down for me. He made me feel something... not enough to go to ESPN which is far to red for me.. I just miss him...
