Aaron Harang had a rough first inning, giving up two runs and putting his team in an early hole.  However, the Reds offense was ready and scored five times in their half of the first.

With two outs in the top of the fifth, and the Reds leading 6-3, the rain began to fall.  Over two hours later, Aaron Harang went back out to the mound to get one more out and qualify for a victory.

Jared Burton gave up two runs in the sixth, but Carlos Fisher pitched two scoreless innings and Francisco Cordero shut down the Astros in the ninth for the save.

The Astros committed three errors on the day, causing all eight runs the Reds scored to be of the unearned variety.

The Reds did have a good day offensively, banging out 13 hits.  Jonny Gomes had three hits.  Jerry Hairston, Ramon Hernandez, Adam Rosales and Harang each had two.

The Reds and Astros continue the series tonight at 7:10.  Nick Masset is due to be activated from the disabled list.  The game will begin with two right-handers on the mound.  Roy Oswalt (1-2) will go for the Astros.  The Reds will counter with Micah Owings (3-5).

In the midst of baseball and cookouts, let's not forget what this holiday weekend is for.  Memorial Day is a time to remember thank and remember those brave men and women serving our country.  Along with those before them who may have given the ultimate sacrifice, they have given us the chance to attend a baseball game or have a family cookout.  Thank a veteran, say a prayer, talk to your kids or simply sing the National Anthem.
