The Omaha Royals have got to be looking forward to the month of May being over. After starting the season with a respectable 12-8 record in April, May has been an absolute disaster. Monday night???s win was the team???s eighth victory this month, against 16 losses.
The Royals have had many culprits for their struggles, and their slide can unfortunately truly be called a team effort. At the beginning of this skid, the starting pitching was hard pressed to record an outing lasting longer than 5 innings. Now the rotation seems to be finding its footing and the bullpen has stumbled mightily. Since returning to Omaha, the Royals??? rotation has posted a minute 1.25 ERA. That???s a span of five games, and 36 and a third innings pitched. Only one starter has failed to go past the sixth inning, and only one starter has allowed more than one earned run.
On the other side is a bullpen that has posted a 10.12 ERA over the same span, and has been tagged with losses in every game they???ve appeared in. The one win over the five game slide was due in large part to a complete game victory by Heath Phillips Monday night.

That's good news for your Royals and Heath. Does Heath weigh 280? His parents were both small, not tall and not thick.
