This blog is regarding the rumor that the Sacramento Kings are looking to trade PG Mike Bibby to the Cavs for Drew Gooden and possibly Damon Jones. I read the Truth & Rumors article, and after reading all the comments, I came across something interesting. Cavs fans actually seemed excited at this prospect. All the comments were something along the line of, "finally LeBron gets a true point guard" or "Bibby will help turn the Cavs into a true threat, not just a one-and-done Finals appearance." Here's the dirty little secret, Cavs fans: Mike Bibby STINKS!!! He doesn't play any semblance of defense. He is a shoot-first PG who has below average assists per game numbers. He's nearly 30, and has hit his ceiling and can only go down from here. He is coming of a career worst 40.9 field goal percentage. Oh, and he's due $13.5 million this season, and $14.5 million the year after that.
Gooden, on the other hand, is 25 years old. He averaged 7.9 rebounds per game last season, and is known for his particular intensity on the offensive glass. He also has a career PPG average of 12.1. So, please, trade Gooden to Sacramento. We'll gladly give up a washed up, aging PG for a up and coming PF with a bright future. Oh, and its a $6 million difference in paycheck, so be ready for that, too. I know all of us here in Sacramento would like nothing better than ship Bibby right out of town for a much-needed upgrade on the boards.
