Everyone knows that the Jacksonville Jaguars fell very short of high expectations last season.  While it is true that much of their lack of production was due to devestating injuries across their offensive line, there are certainly other areas of concern.  Wide receiver?  Holt can't do it all.  Will Mike Walker step up?  Will one of the rookies have a big impact?  Defensive Line?  Will the two sophmores get to the quarterback this year?  Will they finally find a new Marcus Stroud? The Jaguars did little in the draft to bolster their linebacker depth chart. Will this be an issue considering  the departure of Mike Peterson?  Some of the media personalities are even saying that David Garrard over acheived in 2007 and will not return to that level of production/efficiency.  (I think that one is ridiculous.)  The defensive backfield is also a bit of an issue and the Jaguars are relying on draft pick Derek Cox to make an impact  more sooner than later.

You tell me.  What's the biggest issue for this team?  And if you're willing to go out on a limb, what will their record be in 2009?

I'm going to say that the Jags have to get to opposing quarterbacks more often  in order to play well in their division. And I'm predicting an 8-8 record.  9-7 if they're lucky.

I think they'll go back to what they do best. Play good defense and run the ball. They picked up two very good tackles in the draft to bolster a disappointing and injury filled offensive line that played last year. They still have MJD to pound the rock. As long as Garrard isn't asked to carry the entire offense, I think a 10-6 or 11-5 record isn't out of the question. Their strength of schedule is tough, but so is half the leagues schedules.

The draft also afforded them a slew of new young WRs that can learn and grow under the experience of Torry Holt. They picked up a good RB in Rashard Jennings to be a nice change of pace back to compliment MJD. They drafted a blocking TE to help w/ blocking assignments to protect Garrard.

They picked up Tra Thomas in FA to help the rookie tackles during their transition into the offense. Jax also re-signed a good DE in James Wyche.

All in all, I'd say they'll be a pretty good team if they can avoid the injury bug this year. I remember 2007, when the Jags kicked my beloved Steelers out of the playoffs in the first round...Beating us both times at our own stadium, something no other team has done in quite a long time. They are pretty much the same team, with the same chemistry, and a little more experience than they were in 07. Just have to stay healthy, and you'll be alright.

Prediction: 10-6 - due to a .500+ strength of schedule & minor free agency losses
