The Knicks are going to trade Nate Robinson, Chris Wilcox and their 1st rounder for Blake Griffin and the #1 pick. Just playing! Had to get your attention.
I heard they are looking into trading, but here's the reality of the situation. The Knicks have no bigman to play in the post. The last few champs that have won the big one have had ; Kevin Garnett, Shaq, Duncan, Gasol or Shaq again. If you include Dwight Howard this year, it should be clear to almost everyone, that a low post presence is MANDATORY to win games, and push toward a championship. Wins don't accumulate by jumpshots, you get victories under the boards.
With the 8th pick the Knicks should not be looking at Stephen Curry or Tyreke Evans no matter how talented they may be. This team needs a post player to balance out the perimeter based offense. We have witnessed what a post player does this year as Dwight Howard has taken the Magic, and Gasol and Odom have taken the Lakers to the finals.
We need 1 of 2 players. The first we have to trade up for in Hasheem Thabeet. The 2nd we'd have to trade back for in BJ Mullens. Either one of these guys would be an upgrade over playing Jared Jeffries at center and hoping for another shooter. Shooters are great, but they are worthless without someone to grab their offensive rebounds and block shots of the opposing team.
I think we should trade the 8th pick to a team in the 12-18 range and select BJ Mullens. He is a legitimate 7' center, he's athletic, can grab rebounds, and has a lot of physical development potential. The trade should include that teams 1st rounder for 2010 when New York has no draft pick.
If Eddy Curry can come back and actually play a little bit, It's better to have a bunch of bigmen than just a few gimpy ones. It's a win-win in my book. What do you Knicks fans think?
