Notre Dame has recently announced the numbers for the freshmen. Sure, we know that Jimmy Clausen wears 7, Armando Allen wears 5, and Gary Gray wears 4, but the players that did not report early didn't have their numbers. Irish fans have been waiting, and here they are.
14 - Brandon Walker
18 - Duval Kamara
23 - Golden Tate
30 - Harrison Smith
33 - Robert Hughes
47 - Aaron Nagel
50 - Steve Paskorz
56 - Kerry Neal
58 - Brian Smith
70 - Matt Romine
75 - Taylor Dever
76 - Andrew Nuss
83 - Mike Ragone
91 - Emeka Nwankwo
95 - Ian Williams
The most notable is Mike Ragone wearing the number 83. Of course, that number is most recently worn by now pitcher Jeff Samardzija. Mike Ragone is a top level tight end who will be a focus point of this offense in a few years, but he will be behind Konrad Reuland, Will Yeatman, and of course All-American candidate John Carlson. No one took the number 10, Brady Quinn's former number.
Wide receiver Duval Kamara is wearing the number 18. That is of course the number that now Cincinnati Bengal Chinedum Ndukwe wore. Ndukwe was a safety, but he did play wide receiver in high school. The most recent wide receiver to wear 18 was scrub Joey Getherall. Kamara hopes to make a bigger impact the Gehterall.
Golden Tate is preparing to wear 23, and Robert Hughes will wear 33, their high school numbers. Golden Tate is taking former wide receiver Chase Anastasio's number, and Hughes has Nate Whitaker's former number. Emeka Nwankwo has a very odd number. He is wearing 91, but he is an offensive lineman. Ian William's 95 was previously donned by Philadelphia Eagle defensive end Victor Abiamiri. Brandon Walker's number 14 once belonged to Heisman winner Johnny Lattner.
