Roger Federer has never won the French Open. Now, his biggest rival, Rafael Nadal is no longer in the field. Federer has to take advantage of this and when the French Open this year.

Even though he doesn't have to face Nadal, he should still be given full credit for the win. He beat Nadal on clay in the tournament leading up to the French Open, and there's nothing to say that he wouldn't have been able to do it again. If Nadal can beat Federer at Wimbledon, he could have returned the favor at Roland Garros.

But his tennis life would surely become significantly more difficult in the future if he doesn't win at the French Open now, while the path is relatively clear.
