As you should know, there are only 23 races left in the 2009 season. There will be many changes come 2010, and here's a warning for 5 drivers who need to shape up or should be ready to ship out.
5. Jamie McMurray - McMurray looked like the best driver around in 2002 when he picked up his first Cup win in only his 2nd start, but he's won exactly one race since. McMurray has done nothing but struggle in his time at Roush (best points finish: 16th), and it appears that the #26 team will be the one that Roush will dump due to NASCAR's policy on number of teams.
4. David Ragan - It could be Jamie McMurray's team that gets cut, or it could also be Ragan's. Ragan looked like he could be a contender for a title this year (finished 13th last season), but has done nothing but finished in the back all year. Ragan has only one top 10 finish so far, and Roush may decide that both Jamie and Ragan should go and go after someone else...Say, maybe, Travis Kvapil or Danica Patrick.

3. Casey Mears - Without a doubt Mears is the most overrated NASCAR driver still with a ride. Mears has one win in his career (on a gamble at the Coke 600), and his best points finish is 14th, and he's currently in 21st with only 2 top 10s. Richard Childress definately took a gamble when he signed Mears, so why not take another gamble, get rid of Mears, and sign Danica Patrick! Sure, they may have to avoid her being sponsored by Jack Daniels and switch Clint Bowyer back to the #07, but it could all turn out to work.
2. David Stremme - Stremme was, just like Mears, a gamble. And Stremme, just like Mears, seems to be a gamble that has failed miserably. Stremme is 29th in points, a far cry from the way the #12 ran with Ryan Newman behind the wheel. Stremme must improve immediately, or else Justin Allgaier will be in the car next season.
1. Michael Waltrip - This may puzzle anyone reading this who realizes Waltrip owns his own team. Well, let me explain. Waltrip said that if he struggled again this season, he would retire and just run MWR. Well, it looks like that's whats going to happen. Waltrip is 32nd in points with only one top 10. At age 46, don't be surprised if this 4-time Sprint Cup race winner hangs it up after Homestead unless something miraculous happens like Waltrip gambles on rain hitting a race, gets the lead, and wins. Hey, that's no stranger to the folks at Michael Waltrip Racing.
