What a great sports year it's turning out to be for me.  First, the Steelers get the unprecented SixPack (6th Super Bowl win) and last night, the Pens, written off by many before the puck dropped in game 1, then by even more after falling behind 2 games to none, then by all but their faithful following after going down 3-2 in the Cup Finals, did the unthinkable in pulling off a Game 7 victory at the Joe.

On a side note, how gratifying it was to see them skate with the Cup on Detroit's home ice after seeing the Wings do it at the Igloo last year.  Even better, to do it in front of Marian Hossa as he disappeared back to the locker room, yet another in a long line of playoff disappearing acts from him.

OK, back to the trifecta, the Lakers have a chance to close out the NBA Finals in Orlando Sunday, and even if they don't they're chances are very high of winning it back in LA.

So that would make my favorite pro teams 3 for 3 in 2009 (don't even bring up the Pirates, baseball is rather meaningless to me).  How many sports fans get spoiled by such across the board success in a single year? I'm still relatively young, but I know this is unlikely to ever happen again in my lifetime, so short of my kid's ever doing something phenomenal in sports, 2009 will likely go down as the "Sports Year of Perfect30"!

Another side note.  Being from Pittsburgh and not having a NBA team to call our own, I became a fan of the Lakers as a kid, if for no other reasons, it was the early 80's and due to their success, they were one of the few teams on TV (prior to cable in my area, if you can comprehend that) with any regularity.  That and the fact the first basketball my dad ever gave me had Magic Johnson's signature stamped on it.  You can call me a bandwagon or fair weather fan if you want, which may be true, but I was less than 10 at the time, and I've stuck with the Lakers since, through good and bad, so I think I deserve a pass here.  And, who would you expect me to root for, the Cavs or Sixers, just because they're the closest geographically?  If so, you don't know much about Pittsburgh sports fans.
