Unfortunately for me, I have to do my Basic Military Training this summer. That means 2 whole months without MMA. That also means that I have to make my UFC 101 and 102 picks before I go. If there are any last minute changes in the cards I won't be able to change my picks ....
Main Card Picks
Josh Neer vs Kurt Pellegrino
I think Kurt should take this one, but it won't be an easy fight. Both are experienced veterans looking to move up the rankings at the others cost. Both their most recents loss have come at the hands of Nate Diaz. Kurt got triangled by him and Neer took him to a decision, although Pellegrino looked better in his fight before getting caught. Kurt came back with back-to-back wins over Tavares and Rob Emerson. I think Kurt will take the 2nd round rear naked choke win.
Kendal Grove vs Ricardo Almeida
Two fights ago Ricardo was fighting for a shot at the Middleweight belt, and Kendal Grove was fighting just to stay in the UFC. Ricardo has won 8 of his lasts 9, with his ony loss being a decision to Cote. He's got sick BJJ and a tough chin. Kendal on the other hand is 2-2 in his last four with wins over Day and Tanner. He's got a long reach, and when he uses it he can be deadly. He has decent jits but I don't think he can hang with Almeida on the ground. I think that Almeida will pick up the 1st round RNC win.
Amir Sadollah vs Johny Hendricks
This fight is interresting as it's Amir's first fight back since taking the TUF 7 finale with a win over C.B Dalloway. Even though he's only techinically 1-0, he won all four of his fights during the season with including beating Matt Brown and C.D Dalloway. He's also 4-0 in his amature career. Johny Hendricks is unbeaten with a couple wins in the WEC under his belt. Nonetheless, Amir is gonna win this with a late 2nd round sub.
Anderson Silva vs Forrest Griffin
RUN FORREST RUN. This is a terrible match up for Forrest, probaby one of the worst they could have given him. To start, one of Forrest's biggest weaknesses is his chin. Three of his five losses came via TKO or KO. He doesn't have the best head movement or striking and Anderson is gonna absolutely pick him apart standing. Anderson's unbelievable kicks, knees, elbows, and punches are gonna finish Forrest off fast. On the other hand, Forrest is a master game planner, just talk to Rampage, and he does have strong jits. Plus being at his natural wieght class will help him so I may not be giving him enough credit. But whenever Silva has been given an opponent worth his time, he's stepped up and finished him. I don't see why this is going to be any different. Silva 2nd round KO.
BJ Penn vs Kenny Florian
Kenny Florian is a tough **** but I don't see him having a chance against BJ Penn. BJ is much better on the ground then Florian, and he's got sick striking. Sure, BJ got destroyed against GSP, but at his own weight class, BJ is unbeatable. He's fought people like Florian before, people who were tough as nails and who people thought were gonna give him a run for his money, and then he pounded their faces in and submitted them. Joe Stevenson, Jens Pulver, Sean Sherk, you name it. Florian will be no different. BJ by 3rd round Rear Naked Choke.
