Joey Votto is beginning the road back to the Reds. He has taken batting practice with the team the last two nights. He left for Sarasota last night to start a Minor League rehabilitation assignment.

After three games against the White Sox this weekend and an off-day Monday, the Reds open a series in Toronto next Tuesday, which is Votto's hometown.

"He'd want to go there," Dusty Baker said. "Realistically, Toronto is Tuesday. You always want to go home. If he left [Thursday], that's not enough time. I'm probably thinking, realistically, [he'd return] after this road trip to make sure he's super ready in all departments."

Votto has been on the disabled list since May 30 with stress-related issues.
