Micah Owings was the man of the hour last night as the Reds beat the Braves 4-3. Cincinnati has now taken the first two games of the series after losing four in a row.

Owings, now 4-7, provided his team with a quality start by allowing six hits and two runs in six innings. He did have to work for the victory.

The Braves had a runner on third with nobody out in the fourth and could not score. The Atlanta fifth inning started with back-to-back singles. Owings escaped unscathed by getting a 4-6-3 double play and fly out.

Nick Masset, Arthur Rhodes and David Weathers held the lead until the ninth. Francisco Cordero then came on and notched his 16th save of the season.

Javier Vazquez limited the Reds to four hits, but they made them count. Jay Bruce got the Reds on the board in the second inning with his 16th home run of the year.

The big blow came from Owings in the fifth. With two on, he went the opposite way into the right field seats. The three-run homer gave the Reds the lead for good.

The other two hits came from Ryan Hanigan. The guy just keeps getting the job done.

The Reds will go for the sweep today at 12:35. It will be Tommy Hanson (1-0, 6.17) against Matt Maloney (0-1, 4.50).
