Would someone please tell me what is going on with Pirate's management! Trading starters for guys that are going to be in the farm system? Trading guys who are performing for guys who have never performed? What in Clemente's name is going on?!?!? I was actually excited with the fact that Nyjer Morgan and Andrew McCutcheon were both playing good baseball. We had some ball players who were true ballplayers.

Why do I have this feeling that this is Aramis Ramirez all over again? This is too much. Unlike Cub fans whoi have suffered without a championship. At least they have good seasons and have a chance. 16 years of futility based on ignorance and stupidity in the Pittsburgh front office is killing baseball in Pittsburgh and destroying us Bucco fans in the rest of the country.

I've had it. I was hoping to write about the teams progress and instead am spending my time being dazed and fuming. Jason Bay, Xavier Nady, then Nate McLouth. Now Nyjer Morgan. How about just selling Freddie down the river too? While your at it, toss Zach Duke and take a minor league "prospect" for Jack Wilson. We might as well get rif of Ryan Doumit before he begins his rehab.

All of this before the All-Star break. Just swell!

Nyjer, wherever you are at this moment, have a great career.

Would somebody that at the very least knows how to spell baseball take over Pirates Management?!?

Did anybody not really expect this to happen? I don't follow baseball or the Pirates too closely, but being from Pittsburgh, and listening to local sports radio, it seems the GM has been pretty clear on his strategy since he got here, not to mention his history in Cleveland.

GMs before him depleted both the farm system and the major league roster, and as he realizes the Bucs can never compete on a level playing field in the FA market, the only way to build a winner is to have a continuous supply of young talent through their farm system. And he's right.

While it would have been great to keep Bay, Nady and McClouth, the reality is, they would have walked in free agency and the Pirates would have gotten nothing for them. So which is worse, keeping some semi-stars and still never really having a chance of contending or taking a chance at actually HAVING a chance to contend by rebuilding the farm system?

Unfortunately, following Dave Littlefield, Pirate fans are out of patience for such moves. As a casual follower, I'm willing to give the guy a chance given his prior success.

And while Nigel was a fan favorite and having a decent year, at 29, I think it's fair to say you saw the most you were ever going to get from him, so I don't necessarily think this is in the same category as Bay, Nady and Nate.

It really is sad. I want to see a Pirates playoff game, but it's not going to happen until Nutting is gone.

Reality: Bob Nutting is a newspaper man. Newspapers are getting slaughtered and both his fortune and income (apart from the Pirates) are in decline. He is going to milk the luxury tax for all it is worth and he is going to let payroll languish in the bottom quartile of the league. He will continue doing this for his own personal financial benefit.

Some owners put the quest for glory before the quest for profits (Howard Baldwin). Some owners are lucky or skilled enough to accomplish both (Dan Rooney, George Steinbrenner, Mario Lemieux). And some owners, sadly, view their franchise as just another business (Donald Sterling, Bob Nutting).
