After watching the highlights of the recent Dodgers versus Padres series, my first thought was thus.  Okay, the Padres played the Dodgers tough.  It's a rivalry series.  Nevertheless, the Padres are still a lousy and moribound franchise.  However my message to all you Padres fans in SI FanNation is look at the bright side.  The franchise could be in Washington, D.C. if Mister Kroc and the City Of San Diego hadn't stepped in.  In fact, the recent Padres infatuation with last place sort of reminds me of the days when Bill Grief and Nate Colbert were the only positives for the club.  However right now as was the case way back then, the team is a ridiculous joke like the Atlanta Braves were at that point in time.  So lucky for you and me both, there is hope and things obviously can't get any worse for the franchise than it is now.  However, any pitching staff stocked with the 2009 versions of Bob Owchinko and Eric Rasmussen aren't going to get the job done.  In the mean time, while the franchise rebuilds and stays out of the national media spotlight, I'll just enjoy the games I get and who knows?  Perhaps I'll get myself to a McDonalds and pig out on Quarter Pounders and super size fries and pop, and when the Padres decide to get their house in order, I'll be in front of my set to see it and I won't be writing scathing Padres blogs like this one.  Until next time, enjoy your Padres games...that is if you have the nerve and the stomach to put up with it.

what i dont understand about san diego is how it is considered a "small market" team, san diego is something like the 7th largest metropolitan area in the country, why cant they ever afford to buy a player
