Just a short post today but I thought this new record was interesting. On Sunday night, the Philadelphia Phillies became the first team in history to lose 10,000 games. Keep in mind, however, that this franchise got its start on May 1, 1883; much earlier than most. Spectators and rivals alike are doing their best to pull all negative aspects of this record to the forefront. Manager Tony La Russa has a different idea. He saved the ball from the last out and plans to auction it off with proceeds going to his animal rescue foundation. He says "it's nothing to be ashamed about." Pitcher Adam Eaton said "when you have 125 years of existence as an organization, I think you should be the first team to get to a great milestone like that." Regardless of the positive light that those two are trying to put this in, the truth still remains that they are the losingest team in SPORTS history. That's right...not just MLB...sports history! I commend Phillies fans though for sticking it out.

Interestingly enough, the Atlanta Braves are sitting pretty in second place on that list. They have 9,681 loses, but it took them stints in three cities to get to that point (Boston, Milwaukee and Atlanta). I don't know about anyone else but that kind of took me by surprise. I'm not a religious follower of the Braves. I follow them during the season but when it comes to stats and history, I'm no smarter than a 5th grader. The good old Cubbies come in third with 9,425 loses.
