Timberwolves PBO David Kahn wanted to make a splash in his first draft as boss of the Wolves. If that was his goal, give him an "A" for reaching it. As everyone knows by now, Kahn drafted point guards with both the 5th and 6th picks, and, two weeks later, hasn't traded either of them.

Spanish sensation Ricky Rubio fell to the Wolves at number 5. Anybody reading this blog has certainly followed the Rubio Story and knows how complicated his buyout is, combined with the fact that he may not, for a variety of reasons, want to play here. It all makes for an extremely murky situation that, at the very least, gives me something Wolves-related to read, think, and worry about over the summer. What more could you want?

There are so many factors and different aspects to the Rubio Story that I couldn't do it justice in a single blog post, so this is just the first in a series that will attempt to analyze and make sense of (more for my benefit than anybody who might stumble across the blog and read it, I might add) this ordeal.

How Kahn handles this delicate, complex situation may just define his tenure as GM. If he trades Rubio for spare parts and watches him become a star, it would effectively murder this franchise. If he gets Rubio onto the Target Center floor, but Rubio is a bust, it would set an already painful rebuilding process back years. But if Rubio lives up to the hype, or busts on some other team that gave us a star-caliber player or two for him, then the Wolves are well on their way to contention. Let's hope Kahn gets it right.

In this series, look for posts on:

-Whether Rubio will play here this season, or ever, and how that can happen

-Whether Rubio is as good as the hype suggests

-Whether Rubio and Flynn really can be a starting NBA backcourt

-If they can't, a comparison between Rubio and Flynn

-If Rubio isn't going to play here, the trade market for him

-And other topics that need to be discussed, if I think of them...
