It is amazing what we are willing to forgive athletes.. far more than we would forgive politicans.. far more than we would forgive someone we love...They cheat on us like allegidly Clemens did, like Barry Bonds and we are just dying to forgive them.. we want to see a little bit more magic... Truth is we don't want our stars to be good people, we don't want them to be ordinary because ordinary is boring.. say what you want but the NFL would be as bland as its commisionare without TO, Ray Lewis, Oco Cinco or whatever his name is... Peyton Manning is a better quaterback but Vick is more exciting to watch...
It amazes me how in our world we give aguy 2 years for killing dogs but 30 days for getting drunk and killing a human being..but then again he is an athlete.. we love the redemption story... If Cleveland ever made it to the superbowl there would be some long story on how Stalworth turned his life around so we can feel good about it...
It is like Michael Jackson who for me was the only source of good memeries from my childhood... and how none of us can come to terms with the child molestation even though it is logical that great pain which Michael had in hi childhood could make for a nuture argument for him doing that horrid thing...
Yet because he is famous, because Clemons is famous we are so willing to turn a blind eye and worship the parts we love.. and if there is a moral to the story I guess it would be that it is human nature to want to see the good in those we watch on TV... but it is also sad because most often we can't afford to see those we truly love the same way where we see the good in them...
