Derek Fisher is getting old and he is an expiring contract, while Jordan Farmar and Shannon Brown aren't starting point guards in the NBA, so it's safe to say that the Lakers need a new running mate next to Kobe in the backcourt. Here are my top 3 candidates (in no order) to run the triangle offense in LA.
3. PG Steve Blake - Portland TrailBlazers
If the Lakers want some cap space and a temporary PG upgrade, Steve Blake is their guy. He is an ideal triangle offense PG, a guy who is 6-3 and is a unselfish point-guard, but when needed, he can also hit the open jumper. He and Derek Fisher can split minutes at the point if they aquire him, with Shannon Brown getting spot minutes at PG as well.
Potential trade: Steve Blake for Jordan Farmar, Josh Powell, Sun Yue, and a future pick. With this potential trade, LA would probably need to sign an additional big man (possibly Drew Gooden) while Porltand would probably sign Andre Miller.
2. PG Kirk Hinrich - Chicago Bulls
Kirk Hinrich would be a great long-term option for them. He finally gets a shot at a starting role as a Laker. He is a very versitale defender who can guard both guard positions and he also takes charges similar to Derek Fisher. Hinrich is also a polished spot-up shooter, the top attribute a triangle offense point guard needs to succeed. With him in the lineup, they would be one of the best defensive teams in the NBA.
Potential trade: Kirk Hinrich for Jordan Farmar, Adam Morrison, Josh Powell, and a future pick OR Kirk Hinrich and Tyrus Thomas for Lamar Odom (sign-and-trade), Jordan Farmar, and Josh Powell.
1. PG Jason Terry - Dallas Mavericks
Jason Terry would be a great game-changer for this team. The pull off a deal for a guy like this, they would need to give up Lamar Odom. But if it means getting Jason Terry, I would be happy with the trade. He is a shooting guard in a point guard's body, and players like these usually do well in the triangle. He has great speed and can get out in transistion well. He would be a great pickup for LA if Lamar Odom wanted to leave.
Possible trade: Jason Terry, Kris Humphries, and Shawne Williams for Lamar Odom (sign-and-trade), Jordan Farmar, and Adam Morrison.

i like shannon browns chances of improving greatly. he played very well in the minutes he's been given and seems ready to work to get better.

Maybe it's just my opinion, but why isn't Farmar able to be a starting PG in the future?
And again, maybe it's me, but would Terry fit? Even with Odom gone, Kobe, Artest, Bynum and Gasol all want the ball. One of the great things about Fisher was his ability to score, but not needing to score very much. He fit in phenomenally with that team, but I have doubts about Terry.
And you're a Laker fan, Denis, does Sun Yue get playing time ever? I remember hearing about him going to LA during the Olympics...and heard absoultely nothing since then.

I just think Farmar isn't going to be a good leader and floor general on a team...his peak could be somewhere along the lines of Aaron Brooks this season, but that's about it. He fits more with a run-and-gun offense. He has some questionabe decision making and he only shot a little under 34% from 3 point range, which is what LA is looking for out of him the most when he is playing with the starting lineup. He could be a starter somewhere else, but not in LA. Creating plays with the second unit is what he does best in LA.
As for Terry, I think he is a good spot-up shooter like Fisher and his role won't be as big as it was in Dallas. He doesn't need the ball in his hands, so when Kobe or Pau get double-teamed, he is open for the jumper.
Sun Yue, though, needs some more time to develop in the NBA. When Sasha Vujacic's contract expires in 2 years, I think he will be fully capable to back up Kobe.

If it aint broke dont fix it. We just got Artest and just need Odom to resign. The Triangle doesnt need a pure PG just a facilitator who can get others involved. Besides Artest can handle the ball pretty well as he averages 4apg for his career.

I am no fan of Jordan Farmar, and I do agree that he isn't a starter in the League.
However, right now things are fine in Lakerland and the players they currently have assembled works just fine. No need for them to trade contributors for Blake, Heinrich, or even worse Jason Terry.

I like both Farmar and Shannon Brown. I think either of them could run the triangle offense very well. I don't think Jason Terry would be a good fit for LA, his style doesn't fit the triangle, and I wouldn't want to give up Odom. The Lakers need Odom back.
I don't think Chicago would ever go for that Hinrich deal.
I do, however like the idea of getting Steve Blake. I think he is a great fit for the Triangle, and would be a good long term solution for LA.
I'd rather the Lakers just give Farmar and Brown a chance after Fisher is done.
