The Washington Redskins made their first ever selection in an NFL supplemental draft on Thursday when they picked Kentucky defensive end Jeremy Jarmon in the third round.

The Redskins will give up their third-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft.

Jarmon acknowledged in May he had been declared ineligible for his senior season by the NCAA because he tested positive for a banned substance. He said the result came from a dietary supplement.

The Washington Post reported that the Redskins took Jarmon in the third round because they thought teams would take him in the fourth. The Redskins, not ones to horde draft picks, thought a third-rounder was a good price to pay for Jarmon.

Of course, a text message from Jarmon to Executive VP of Football Ops Vinny Cerrato begging for the team to pick him didn't hurt, either:

"I sent Vinny a text message this morning ... and I told him I want to be a Redskin, make it happen. It's a place I wanted to be and I'm just glad that dream came true for me. He responded in the ultimate way to my text message by drafting me today."
