I haven't been blogging here on FanNation for a few days, and the reason is I was gone. My family and I took a trip up to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to relax and have some fun before school starts back up. The night before we left on our way home, we decided to play a little game of mini golf. To my knowledge I have never beat my dad in a game, mostly because I get aggravated when I miss and don't take my time. Something, however, clicked that night.
There were only three of us playing: Me, my dad, and my cousin. My cousin was out of it early, as he played as I described above: aggravated, half trying, just ready to leave. So it just left me and my dad. With three holes left, we were tied. Same with two to go. Then after my last hole I had a one stroke lead over my dad. After his first putt he had a makeable shot that would have ended the game in a tie. But he did something I didn't expect: He missed. Just hit it too much to the left of the hole. So I won. But for some reason, I didn't feel like a winner.
Throwing games for others. It happens all the time. Whether you do it for you little brother or sister in a game of basketball or let some pucks go by you to let your girlfriend win a game of air hockey, we've all done it at least once. Fathers have to do it all the time with their kids. I mean, after all, how does it feel knowing you beat your 4 year old in a game of H-O-R-S-E? It doesn't feel good. Still, why would my dad do this?
I'm 15 years old. I got over losing years ago when I played on the basketball version of the Bad News Bears (My best friend played basketball for 5 years, never won a game!) So why on earth would he just miss the shot? My dad has always been a giver. If you asked him for the shirt off his back, he would hand it to you and say "Anything else you need?" with sincere honesty. I guess he just decided "Hey, I'm going to let him win this one". Or he might have had a brain fart and just plain-out missed the shot. Either way, the outcome has made me wonder ever since it happened.
