I hope I'm wrong, but watching Alberto Contador blast pass everyone at the end of the Tour de France yesterday on a mountain stage reminded me of Floyd Landis. Remember, he had a bad day , then suddenly came from behind & blistered the field. Unfortunately, he failed two tests & ultimately was stripped of his title. I would not like to see that happen again, but that's the tour's history. Remember the year a whole bunch of riders were kicked out before the race started, & then Michael Rasmussen was kicked out WHILE WEARING YELLOW?
This is why I am always suspicious of someone suddenly coming up with the kind of performance Contador gave. Lance was always consistent, not bad one day then superman the next. Now every sport has problems. Baseball is steroid heaven with ridiculous home run stats, track & field has been down for years because you are never sure about the sprinters. I admit to being suspicious of Dara Torres, a 43 year old swimmer winning medals?
Tom Watson is different. I don't think drugs helped him at Turnberry. Remember you don't win because of long drives, or else john Daly would be the greatest golfer ever. You have to be able to putt. The short game is important. I don't follow golf, but that would have been a great story.
