Brett Favre is staying where he is. Favre told ESPN's Ed Werder that the decision not to play for the Vikings was incredibly difficult, and in the process he indicated that his football career is pretty much done. Many believed that Favre would return to the NFL after he had shoulder surgery in May, and the Vikings were the only team he wanted to play for. From what I heard I thought that Favre was just waiting to sign on the dotted line to hand the ball off to Adrian Peterson, but I was wrong. So, what are my thoughts on this decision? Thank God.
I hate Brett Favre. There's no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Ever since I have watched the NFL, every offseason everyone asked "Is Brett coming back???" And the analysts would argue, and say "Yes, he wants to win another Super Bowl" or "No, he needs to just hang it up". Then in March of '08 Brett retired. Everyone said "What a Great Career...We'll all miss him". But I knew this wasn't the end. A lot of people knew it wasn't the end. And as it turns out, it wasn't the end. Favre went on to sign with the Jets, and the rest is history.
So, what does this mean for the Vikings? I really see only one other option available, and that option is Michael Vick. Vick could bring some life into their passing game, and could be a 1-2 punch with AP. Or Minnesota could make a trade and bring in another QB. However, the market for that QB would be very low. As I see it, the QB position is what's keeping the Minnesota Vikings from going from a Playoff team to a Super Bowl team.
