Okay, okay. So Brett Favre has officially stated that he will not return to play for the Minnesota Vikings. Good for him. It must be hard to retire from the sport you have dedicated so many years to. I suppose it might get easier the second and third time around, though. Perhaps this one will stick. Either way, he will not be returning for this coming season, and I for one am thrilled.
I suppose I have no real basis for disliking Favre so much. On the other hand, I have a lot of hatred that is unprovoked. Could it be that disgusting #4 that he insists on wearing everywhere now? Will they have to retire that number throughout the NFL just so we don't have another "LeBron vs. Michael Jordan"-esque debate?! Perhaps I just don't like Green Bay, and because he was the poster-boy for the Packers, my hatred transferred to Favre. Maybe the fact that his name is not spelled like it sounds. Yes, I really loathe him for that.
Let's get down to the nitty gritty. Since his surgery 6-7 weeks ago, Favre has been practicing with his local high school team. Rumor has it that his nephew, supposedly a senior this year,  should be playing for that team. Favre has allegedly expressed his interest in that team, and possibly would like to coach high school someday. That's just what they need in Mississippi. The southern states have enough of an issue with high school football without an ex-NFL QB trying to make the calls from the sidelines. He has made something of himself, I'll give him that. Granted, it was a legacy of throwing a pigskin to a receiver who probably wouldn't have gotten into college on academic merit alone. Not only that, but his hardcore fans were known as cheeseheads. Need I say more?
Will the third time be a charm, and he will stay retired for good? Only time will tell. Until then, we can all take comfort in the fact that football fans and Favre haters alike will not be subject to his shenanigans for at least one year.
