I will first admit to everyone that I am a big Yankee fan. However, I can admit when they have screwed up! Not making the playoffs this year would SUCK for every Yankee fan, but what makes me mad is that they had the ability to make it! When you have as much money as there spending, you can definatly get what you need.
First things first, I dont care who says it wasnt and who wants to argue with me, Clemens was a waste of money. if they could use that money to get either a young pitcher or get them a player to help on D, they would be that much better than they are now. Clemens is decent for his age, but what about next year! baseball is a sport in which you have to focus not just on your season now, but your seasons in the future. When he retires (again) in a year or two, what will the Yanks have gotten for that money. A few wins but more losses. If they would have signed a young pitcher that they could work on for years to come, he prolly copuld have done what Clemens has this year or even better.
The next thing is to trade some of their players out for some pitching. i think we can all agree that the Yanks will have no trouble with O and if they do, they can get some players. But what I would work on is D and pitching. Theier pitchers have been blowing these games and the errors the team have made are costful. I say trade Damon or Abreu while you can still get something for them, and get a big name pitcher that will pull together twelve or more wins.
I have been hearing rumors about extending Posada's contract and some about releasing him because they have a good catcher in their farm system. But Yanks.... DO NOT GET RID OF JORGE! You cant replace him with a rookie. He has been some of thier best O players and is great at gunning people out and calling a great ball game. Releasing him is realeasing a big part of thier team. Also, keep A-rod. i dont care if you can get the best pitcher in the league for him. he has most of that teams O, scoring the most RBI's and HRs in the whole MLB.
My last thing I will state for now is to not get rid of Torre. I am sick of him getting blamed for this teams lossses. He has done evreything he needs to by putting these guys where they have to be, they are just not coming through to thier full potential.
They are a good team and if they pull it all together, they can be a threat to the wildcard and have some great seasons in the future.

Well, I hope for the Red Sox' sake that the Yankees don't take any of your advice lol.

I agree with most of what you say. I would trade A-Rod if you could get enough in return. It will be tough, though, because of his no trade, and he's so image conscious and doesn't want to admit he can't handle New York. I love the idea of trading both Damon and Abreu if you can get return. I don't like the idea of the team missing the playoffs, but these are players that are on the downside of their careers and if you can get young players back that can impact your future.
I just finished reading a book called "Birth of a Dynasty" by Joel Sherman, and it seems funny now, but much of the dynasty years was made possible by shrewd trades by Gene Michael. As much as the Yanks are known for having and spending money, it was the home grown guys and lesser trades that really build the core of that team.

Yea, the ONLY way i would trade A-rod is for a HUGE pitcher. He has been so much of the teams O that it could very badly hurt them. I dont think he will walk though. But the Yanks should try to renagotiate his contract now.
