Ask any Philadelphia sports fan to describe what kind of fan they are, chances are they will say "passionate". But what is passionate? Is passionate rounding up thirty drucken losers and sending them up to New York to boo the Eagles first pick of the '99 draft (you know Donovan McNabb). Is passionate calling someone dumb and making fun of the way a person talks, like Philly fans used to do to Charlie Manuel (before he won the world series, now they love him). Is it passion that causes Philly fans to get in a brawl inside the ball park, while the Phillies are raising there 2008 World Series banner. The answerr is no, this is not passion, it's called stupidity.
Being a loyal Philly fan, I am becoming more and more sickened by the fans of this city. The latest is the Michael Vick drama that Philly fans are blowing way out of proportion. I am not a dog or animal lover, so I admit I am biased, but enough is enough. I am listening to my favorite radio station on my way to work yesterday, 610 WIP, and honestly had to turn it off. Fan after fan, calling up, spewing some ridiculous comments about how awful it is to sign a person like this. This is what got me to thinking, these are the same who claim winning is everything, remember were passionate. Donovan McNabb has been crucified in this city for coming up short. He can't win the big game is the argument Philly fans use. Reid gets the same treatment, he averages 10+ wins a season, has been to 5 NFC championships, but yet this not enough. Philly fans want McNabb and Reid both gone. Philly fans complain all the time, we want weapons, we want WR, etc. The Eagles go out Thursday night and sign a guy who is a weapon, not as QB, but as a wildcat/hybrid type player. Think about it, the Eagles come out with a formation of McNabb, Westbrook, MCcoy, Jackson, Curtis, and Vick, who do you cover. I can think of it now, especially at the goal line (where the Eagles were pitiful last year). McNabb takes the snap, fakes to Westbrook, pitches it to Vick, who eludes some tacklers, and finds Jackson in the endzone for a TD!
But for Eagles fans right now, they don't care. All of a sudden the Eagles fans found morals. The same fans who curse and throw objects at opposing fans, including children. What is so hypocritical about the Eagles fans is they slaughter a perfect, nice, family man like McNabb because he can't get it done. They don't care that McNabb is a perfect citizen, a community volunteer, a nice guy, all they care about is that he doesn't win big games. Now Vick has not won anything, but there is no question that Vick is a playmaker when the ball is in his hands. That is what makes Philly fans hypocritical, they call themselves passionate, and have a "just win baby" attitude, but stay away from a playmaker like Vick, we don't want to win that badly. So which is it?
I'm not going to go into all this give him a second chance nonsense. Vick spent 18+ months in prison and is bankrupt, he paid a debt to society. So shame on Eagles fan, instead of embracing player who could help our team we crucify him like he is the devil. I want to end with asking every Eagles fan a question, how many of you hunt animals. How many of you fish, bet on horse racing, wear leather, wear fur coats, etc. I guess that is not inhumane either. An animal is dying so you can have enjoyment or look nice. Think about it.
