Yes, Brett Favre is back. The Vikings must make sure that he stays rested; they don't need Brett Favre to win games for them.
I repeat, they do not need Favre to win games for them.
With the Jets last year, the defense wasn't that great, it was inconsistent at best. They allowed at least 24 points in nine games, and allowed more than 30 four times.
Put simply, last year, Minnesota's defense was ranked 6th overall. The Jets were 16th, not bad, but not great. In fact, the Jets were behind all of their division rivals in overall defensive rank.
On offense, despite fielding mediocre QBs, the Vikes are 17th in overall offense, yds gained. The Jets are 16th, less than a yard ahead.
All Favre needs to do is throw 20-25 passes a game, keeping his arm healthy of course, but last year, he threw 30+ attempts in twelve games, and 40+ attempts four times. That is sheer craziness. The man turns 40 in less than 2 months. He can't be doing that anymore. If they count his throws, much like pitchers do in baseball, they can keep him and his arm healthy for the postseason. It isn't like they don't have any other offensive weapons...AP anyone?
The defense and running offense can win the games, Favre just can't make stupid mistakes and decide to start lobbing the ball everywhere.
The winter months are always the time when RBs step it up and run much more; how about Favre throws 20 attempts, and T. Jackson gets a few snaps in a wildcat formation? The possibilities are endless. And Berrian will benefit. I expect 1000 yds, and at least 10 receiving TDs, even 1-3 rushing.
